Flying by yourself with a 9 month old deserves LOTS of mom points!

Flying by yourself with a 9 month old deserves LOTS of mom points!

I’m just sayin.

What if I told you that you had to fly on a plane for 2 hours by yourself with a very active 9 month old. Sounds like torture, doesn’t it?

Now, let’s throw in a double ear infection.

I think it goes without saying that I was super stressed about the idea alone, so in typical “Suzanne fashion” I came up with a 3 pronged plan.

Plan A

Keep baby up very late the night before. Wake up baby intermittently to interrupt her sleep. Wake baby up extra early in the morning. Hold food until plane taxis. Baby sleeps entire flight. Succesful landing. Mission Accomplished!

Plan B

Keep baby up very late the night before. Wake up baby intermittently to interrupt her sleep. Wake baby up extra early in the morning. Hold food until plane taxis. Baby sleeps most of flight. Keep baby content with food, books and various toys until landing. Succesful landing. Mission Accomplished!

Plan C

Keep baby up very late the night before. Wake up baby intermittently to interrupt her sleep. Wake baby up extra early in the morning. Hold food until plane taxis. Baby refuses sleep and screams due to air pressure and ear infections. Baby refuses to stay in lap and screams to be put down. Abort mission, give up, and hope you land without too many nasty comments and eye daggers.

Fortunately for me and nifty strategizing I was able to maintain plan B with no issues. When we landed I wanted to go into the middle of the aisle and scream.

“Whoooooooooooooooo!”

“Whoooooooooooooooo!”

“Yessssssssssssssssssssss!”

“I did it!”

“Whoooooooooooooooo!”

“Who’s your mommmaaa!”

“Whoooooooooooooooo!”

“Go Suzie, it’s your birthday!”

“Whoooooooooooooooo!”

Regrettably, I didn’t do it. I didn’t have anywhere to put the baby and it would have been awkward with my carry-on. Know what I mean?. But, I did a silent cheer in my head for sure.

And here’s a question for you??? How the hell do you change a baby’s diaper on a plane? Let’s just say that I did it, but it wasn’t easy and I’ve now blocked that ordeal from my mind.

  1. hurray! we are officially ALL flying to Delaware in August, so I will need your help in making a list of what to bring, how to bring it, and how to keep TWO children from making a plane full of people want to murder me.
