Mommy-Butt Monday Week 5

Weight gain/loss: -5!!
Skinny Jean status: Negative, bleh!

Ok, so I was doing awesome with the weight loss until January when I hit a HUGE plateau (only 1 pound weight loss! Boo!).  Obviously, I needed to make some changes so I took a long hard look at what was going on and tried to look at the whole picture (something I’m not very good at!)

Here’s what I learned about myself:

I am not a dieter. I am a restricter.

This is HUGE news. See, I’ve always been able to lose the pesky 5-10 pounds that have creeped up on me here and there by just restricting calories for a little bit. I have been able to lose weight easily like that for years. I did that initially for my baby weight-loss and it worked great for a while. The problem is, I realize, is that it only works in the short term and for a few pounds. I gained a lot of weight in my pregnancy and before hand from fertility treatments. Losing 50 pounds by restricting alone is damn near impossible.

So I did some research and I chose a diet that I thought would work for me and my lifestyle. Now, those of you who know me well, know that I am a carb lover. So, those atkins type diets or low carb messes are nearly impossible for me. In college I survived off what I called the “5 P’s” (potatoes, pickles, popsicle’s, pasta, and pretzel’s). Not the healthiest diet, but I was skinny so obviously it wasn’t carbs making me gain weight.

In typical “Suzanne-style” I did what any carb addicted girl would do, and I started the Carb Lover’s Diet. Ok, I know you’re on the floor laughing at me right now, but I’m telling you that the diet said you will lose up to 6 pounds in one week. I lost 5. So, something is working, right? Anyhow, it’s not like what you think. I’m not running around eating donuts and pounds of pasta. BUT, I can eat baked potato chips, and even wine is on the diet if I substitute it as a snack. I will tell you that any diet that allows me to drink wine (and coffee) and eat potato chips is especially made for me!!

Normally, I don’t follow exact diet plans as far as the foods and recipes they list, but I did this time. It was super easy. I was full- I couldn’t always finish my food or eat all the allotted snacks. I love the food choices and I didn’t feel like I was starving or restricting some of my favorite foods (I even had a sliver of my football cake last night with my wine!).

Can I tell you how psyched I am?!?! Do you think the Carb Lover’s people will pay me to blog about this? Cause I will seriously talk about this diet all day long if it gets me to my goal weight.

Which reminds me….I’m only a couple of pounds away from my pre-pregnancy weight!!!! Woo-hoo!!!

PS- I have normally been working out every week. I didn’t this last week only cause I was having some knee pain and I was taking it easy, and I still lost 5 pounds. This week I’m going to throw in the exercise again.

PPS- The only drawback of this diet is that it really requires that you eat a banana every day, and I really can’t stand bananas, BUT, I have been making banana smoothies every morning for breakfast and I’ve been able to tolerate that if I add some cinnamon to it to hide the taste. Did you know that cinnamon is a natural metabolizer booster? Extra perk!
