We got discharged today around noon from the hospital, so before we went I helped give Matt a sponge bath and get dressed so we could make our way home free and clean of the hospital germs.
It was a LONG car drive home, and I may or may not have cried a little bit from the stress of it, but we made it home in one piece and all is well.
Matt actually slept for a 5 hour stretch last night ,which is a HUGE improvement. He still woke up around 3 am with some muscle spasms, but we are better able to manage them now, so that was the only time he had major pain. All other distractions were those of the nurses and dr.’s coming in to take vitals and make him take his meds.
OT and PT both came in the morning to make sure one last time he could walk the necessary 250 ft to leave. They also showed us some techniques to go up a few stairs, get dressed, and get in the car.
That said, since we’ve been home Matt has “walked” at least 3 times in the house with the help of the walker and even changed his clothes by himself!
It’s amazing how much he has progressed in each 24 hour interval, but I’m really looking forward to the day when these spasms are gone and he has only minimal pain. I’m thinking this will be in the next 7 days.
Thanks again for all the support I’ve gotten. I realized today just how exhausted I truly am. I pretty much freaked out at the CVS when they told me they couldn’t find Matt’s muscle relaxer prescription. Seriously. Don’t mess with a stressed out, exhausted, hormonal pregnant woman. It’s just not worth it.
One surgery down, one to go…..we find out the date of the next one at Matt’s post-op appointment on Aug. 3.
